National Minimum Wages increases with effect from 1 April 2024

  • Posted on

From 1 April 2024, many workers throughout the UK will see rises to their payslips.

As a result of recommendations made by the Low Pay Commission, 2024 will see the largest ever increase to the National Minimum Wage (NMW). In addition to this, National Living Wage (NLW) will be extended to those aged 21 and 22. Each age category will receive an hourly increase of more than £1.

The new rates with effect from 1 April will be as follows:

  • Age 21 and over (NLW) - £11.44 per hour (currently £10.42)
  •  Age 18-20 (NMW) - £8.60 per hour (currently £7.49)
  • Age 16-17 (NMW) - £6.40 per hour (currently £5.28)
  • Apprentice rate (NMW) - £6.40 per hour (currently £5.28)

Employers may wish to review pay rates throughout March to ensure that they are compliant with the new rates of NLW and NMW from 1 April. Employers should also be aware of when their employees enter a new age band or complete the first year of an apprenticeship
