Two be or not two be? AA and ZZ
The Independent newspaper has reported on a rather unusual case where a family court judge has had to make a determination as to whether a wife did or did not give birth to twin boys.
The husband, and purported father, in the case made an application to the court for an order allowing him to spend time with his twin sons. The wife denied ever having been pregnant and claimed that the twins did not exist. She then admitted to lying and in fact she had previously been pregnant, but that a termination of the pregnancy had been carried out.
A search of birth entries in England and Wales was carried out but no entries were found in relation to the birth of a child to either parties.
Mrs Justice Arbuthnot described this case as ‘unusual’ and ‘perplexing’. She found, after considering, expert evidence, recordings of conversations between witnesses and the wife, WhatsApp messages, photographs and ultrasound scan images that there was strong evidence to show that one child was born but could not find sufficient evidence to support that there were two.
