This is a description of the River Humber:
'Out there is a confusion of shifting sandbanks, swirlingcurrents, treacherous channels - and mud, mud, inglorious mud. Theyall offer a potential hazard to the thousands of commercial vesselsand pleasure craft which ply this busy inland stretch. Notfor nothing does the Humber have the reputation as the world'ssecond most dangerous navigable waterway - after Venezuela's mightyOrinoco.'
"The Humber deserves a lot of respect. You never know whatchallenge it might present even when the weather's apparentlygood," said TV documentary film-maker Paul Berriff, initiator ofthe Humber Rescue.
